The Truth About Attacks on Christians in Democratic Republic of the Congo

In the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), violence has repeatedly erupted over the past 20 years.

The conflicts have involved various groups, resulting in millions displaced and killed. One of the deadliest is the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), the evil Islamic militant group affiliated with the wicked Islamic State.

Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Their violent expansionist agenda has consistently targeted Christians. Over the last two months, believers in the DRC have reported a significant deterioration in the situation, making it even more perilous for them.

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

On May 5, the ADF raided a small agricultural community, resulting in the deaths of two farmers in their fields. That same night, they targeted Christian farmers in the communities of Manzuba, Musandwa, and Wasafi. In total, at least 24 people lost their lives.

The leader of a local civil society group reported that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) carried out attacks on May 6, killing 25 people in Beni, North Kivu, and on May 7, killing 15 in Ituri province. It is currently unclear how many victims were Christians.

A church leader in the town of Oicha attended several burials and spoke about the grief he witnessed yet again in the DRC. “The suffering was evident on every face,” he said. “The town was in mourning. We pray that God heals these broken hearts.”

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

Romans 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This situation is painful, and we must pray for God’s healing for the broken hearts. The pastor of the 8e CEPAC church in Oicha states, “The situation is chaotic. Many farmers have lost their lives, and the Body of Christ is hurting. We urgently call on God to strengthen His Church because we cannot afford to let this continue.”

On May 10, 2026, only 42 believers attended the Sunday service, down from our usual 136. The ADF attacks are seriously affecting the faith of Christians. Please pray for the church during this difficult time. Reports indicate that further ADF assaults on the night of May 10 and the morning of May 11 resulted in at least 15 deaths.

Following a series of further killings over the next few days, the community began to demand answers. “The residents organized a protest march to urge military authorities to replace the soldiers stationed in the area, as they have failed to provide security despite repeated alerts,” the pastor stated.

ADF militants have raided, burned houses and motorcycles, and looted properties, leaving an unconfirmed number of people missing. In April, they shot and killed a farmer in front of his workers for refusing to pay a tax of 30,000 Congolese francs for each worker.

The situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is dire for many believers. This crisis extends across sub-Saharan Africa, where millions of Christians are displaced and face violence for their faith, often living in dangerous conditions.

Christians should keep the church in Eastern DRC in prayer. Pray for God’s comfort, provision for the displaced, and for His Spirit to strengthen them to stand firm amidst these targeted attacks.

1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

1 Peter 3:14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

1 Peter 3:16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

1 Peter 3:17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

Matthew 10:22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

2 Timothy 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

John 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
