As fighting escalates in the Middle East, millions, mostly Muslims, are suffering and losing their homes and families amid an uncertain future.
Pastor Georges Houssney of Horizons International reports that many Muslims are questioning their faith and turning to Jesus Christ. He is currently in Seoul, South Korea, with former Kurdish Muslims from Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, and Iraq who have converted to Christianity.
They confidently express a newfound freedom that had been restricted by their old beliefs. Now, they passionately share in churches about the transformative life they’ve found in Christ and how God is working among Muslims today.
Pastor Houssney has spent over 50 years ministering to Muslims, especially the Kurdish people. He helped translate the Bible into Kurdish in 1973, which has aided many in understanding the gospel.
Today, with nearly 40 million Kurds worldwide, he sees a growing spiritual openness among them. “They walked through the streets, lacking jobs and money,” he recalled. “So, they began visiting our centers. We sent teams into the streets to meet these individuals.”
We set up a table with Scriptures and invited curious visitors to ask, “What is this?” We started with 20 people, and now thousands have come to Christ. Many who leave Islam for Christianity often encounter Jesus through dreams or visions.
Pastor Nihad, Director of the Kurdish Ministry, recounted his imprisonment by the Syrian government, during which he had a vision of Jesus. He said, “My cell was less than a meter wide, my hands were numb, and I was in great pain. Remembering how Jesus healed the lame, I prayed, ‘Jesus, if You are real, help me.’
“I had a vision of a figure in white entering my prison cell with a bowl of olive oil. Each time He poured it on me, my pain eased. I was deeply depressed, wishing for death, but He told me, ‘You are My beloved, and I love you so much.’ Those words still comfort me today.”
Pastor Nihad recognized Jesus from a book by evangelist Billy Graham that someone gave him before his imprisonment. “Reading the prayer of salvation may have opened my spirit to hear God,” he said. Six months after his release, he began sharing his testimony globally.
Pastor Houssney believes that many Muslims will come to Christ and that the Church needs to be ready. He said, “We pray that the Lord will establish and strengthen new believers. If millions come to Christ today, we will not have enough people to disciple them. Let’s pray for more workers for His harvest.”
