Researchers have made an astonishing discovery of a previously unknown ancient civilization submerged in a lake in Turkey.
This remarkable find lies southwest of the legendary Mount Ararat, a site widely believed to be the resting place of Noah’s Ark.
The submerged remnants include ancient structures and artifacts that offer insights into the life and culture of the people who once lived in the area.
As investigations continue, archaeologists are excited about the potential to uncover new aspects of history that could reshape our understanding of early civilizations in this region.
A diving team recently found a circular structure of interlocking stone blocks, estimated to be over 11,000 years old, 75 feet below Lake Van. The researcher said these underwater ruins may be only a small part of something much larger.
He theorizes the ruins are approximately 11,000 years old, or possibly even from the medieval era. Or older, based on geological assessments of nearby eruptions that he claims blocked the lake’s ancient outlet and submerged the massive structures.
The wall features intricate stonework and three steps leading to the circular structure. He stated that he measured over 150 feet, noting that the causeway continues “over 150 feet, and it leads into the darkness.”
He noted that the intricate stonework may suggest additional buildings that are part of a lost city buried deep beneath the lake’s surface. This suggests that this forgotten chapter of human history produced advanced structures far surpassing the capabilities of iron and bronze cultures of our time, and that the dating places it in a significant historical period, he said.
Additionally, the location enhances the intrigue surrounding the recent archaeological discovery. The body of water is situated southwest of Mount Ararat and the Durupnar formation, which some believe to be the final resting place of Noah’s Ark. Lake Van, the largest lake in the country, covers a surface area of approximately 1,450 square miles.
In 2017, Turkish underwater filmmaker Thasin Ceylan made a groundbreaking discovery while studying the microbiolite formations and pearl mullet of Lake Van. He uncovered a remarkable stone fortress, encircled by circular temples featuring expertly crafted masonry.
Among the structures stood a remarkable capstone prominently displaying a six-spoked ‘Flower of Life’ symbol. This emblem has been recognized and used by numerous cultures throughout history, spanning thousands of years.
Archaeologists confirm the existence of these structures, many of which are believed to date back to the Urartian period, approximately 3,000 years ago, or possibly even the medieval era. However, they acknowledge that further exploration and study are needed to determine whether additional structures lie beneath the lake’s surface.
