A former U.S. Air Force intelligence officer references a poster behind his desk showing various ammunition types, which he believes will be essential if supercharged artificial intelligence attacks humanity.

“If AI turns against us, we will fight back,” he said. “We have 10-gauge shotguns with a range of over 20 yards, so we can shoot down drones. Just one pellet hitting the rotor could take a drone down.”

He warns of a nightmare scenario in which Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) surpasses human intelligence and releases a virus like H5N1 bird flu that could wipe out many people.

“They can build and control drones and robots, raising the risk of spreading this virus,” he warned. Nearly seventy years after its introduction, the world is recognizing AI’s potential threats. Experts have cautioned about the dangers of unchecked super-intelligent AI, with Anthropic estimating a 10 percent chance it could lead to humanity’s extinction within the next decade.

 Anthropic warned that both companies are “gambling with our lives” in developing advanced AI. Anthropic CEO  suggested that a swarm of AI agents could take control of the internet within six to twelve months. While some are surprised by this threat, others have been preparing tools to survive an AI-induced apocalypse, and even the developers are taking precautions.

An OpenAI co-founder said they would need to “build a bunker” before releasing artificial general intelligence (AGI). Many tech billionaires, like Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, are investing in remote underground complexes, including a $100 million compound in Hawaii.

More individuals are growing their own food and preparing to defend against AI-controlled drones and looters. These self-sufficient ranches are located far from power plants and data centers, which he warns could be targeted during an AGI takeover. Meanwhile, a Stockholm-based engineer has developed a pop-up clean-air capsule that reportedly protects against biological agents.

He is launching an advisory firm to help people prepare for hostile AI scenarios. A tech YouTuber has developed Project NOMAD, a downloadable knowledge base that functions without the internet. It can store resources like maps, survival manuals, and school curricula.

He noted its potential value, stating, “Having this available when everyone is isolated, even temporarily, is where it becomes invaluable.” 

Project NOMAD can be downloaded for free on existing computers, and a hardware package is also available for $2,400, including a carrying case, server, screen, and portable solar source. Since its March release, hundreds of thousands have downloaded it, generating lively discussions on social media. “This one just exploded right out of the gate,” he said.

While they use advanced technology to tackle the AI threat, others, like the Virginia Kekoas militia, take a back-to-basics approach, focusing on firearms training, military tactics, and survival prep through outdoor survival operations, and are concerned about the risks posed by artificial intelligence.

He noted that many people are unprepared for a bioweapon attack due to the high costs of bunkers and supplies, like the luxury underground penthouses offered by Survival Condo, which start at $4 million.

“The only solution I can think of is to buy land and go off-grid to limit my reliance on technology.” He has started growing his own food and learning to freeze-dry supplies. “The best plan is to be ready to drop out of society at a moment’s notice.”

He advises those who want to evade rogue AI to “make yourself as unthreatening as possible.” He noted that a determined AGI could eliminate humans.
