An ancient map has resurfaced, revealing an exciting opportunity to uncover the legendary location of Noah’s Ark.
Crafted in 1587 by Italian nobleman and cartographer Urbano Monte, this nearly 10-foot-wide map features detailed illustrations of continents and uncharted lands. It notably shows Noah’s Ark on the mountains of Ararat in modern-day Turkey, where researchers are searching for the biblical vessel.
The detail has attracted online attention as it aligns with the Durupınar Formation, where researchers are searching for remains of the biblical boat. Independent researcher Jimmy Corsetti noted, “This location matches the Durupınar site and is nearly the same length. Is it just a coincidence?”
An international team has confirmed that the Durupınar Formation mound is a “man-made object,” not a natural feature. Andrew Jones, founder of Noah’s Ark Scans, noted that preliminary radar data do not indicate a “homogeneous solid-rock signature.”
The team recovered samples from nearly 60 feet deep. “We have found layers of organic material that may be the decayed remains of the Ark,” said Jones. Monte created the map during the Age of Exploration when European cartographers were redrawing the known world after their voyages to the Americas and Asia.
This unique 16th-century map is designed from a north polar perspective, placing the Arctic at the center. Composed of 60 hand-drawn sheets, it forms a nearly 10-foot-diameter circular image. Historians believe Monte was inspired to create it after a Japanese delegation visited Milan in 1585, offering Europeans new global insights.
Stanford University’s David Rumsey Map Center houses the original manuscript, which has been digitally restored and made available online. It is notable for placing Noah’s Ark on the mountains of Ararat, well before modern researchers searched the region for evidence of the biblical vessel.
The Bible recounts that Noah’s Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat after a flood that lasted 150 days, which submerged the Earth, sparing only those aboard the wooden vessel. The team at Noah’s Ark Scans firmly believes this points to something far more extraordinary.
“For decades, skeptics have argued that the boat-shaped Durupınar Formation is simply a solid piece of natural rock,” said Noah’s Ark Scans. “Our mission was to test this claim: Is it a single mass of stone? Does it have internal structures? Where is the true bedrock beneath it, and how does it extend across the surrounding valley?”
Radar scans have revealed three layers beneath the formation’s surface, featuring chambers, corridors, organized patterns, and tunnels. Noah’s Ark Scans’ head of marketing and fundraising stated on X, “Scientists confirm the formation is not geological.”
Reports indicate it is a “man-made object.” Tests by Noah’s Ark Scans showed higher carbon levels in the formation than in nearby soil samples, possibly indicating organic material like ancient wood, although no timber has been found.
The lead archaeologist reported that carbon levels inside the ship are 40 percent higher than those outside, suggesting organic material or wood remnants. The findings are unverified, as samples are still being tested, but a detailed analysis is expected in the coming weeks.
