Was Iran making a nuclear bomb and does Israel have nuclear weapons?

As the world grapples with Trump’s ’12-day war’ between Israel and Iran, we face many questions, especially regarding the types and quantities of nuclear weapons each country possesses.

Could the conflict escalate into a regional war or even World War III? With a fragile ceasefire in the Middle East, understanding the stakes is crucial. Iran acknowledges its nuclear program but asserts it hasn’t developed nuclear weapons. Tehran is a signatory of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which aims to prevent the spread of nuclear arms.

The 1970 treaty has 191 signatories, with Israel being a notable exception. Since the U.S. withdrew in 2018 during Trump’s presidency, Iran has increased its fissile material production, now enriching uranium to nearly 60%—the highest level for a country without a nuclear weapons program.

The 2015 nuclear deal allowed Iran to enrich uranium up to 3.67% purity and maintain a stockpile of 300 kilograms. Since the start of his second term, Trump has sought to curb Iran’s nuclear program. Talks between the U.S. and Iran were interrupted by Israeli attacks, after which Trump imposed new sanctions as part of his “maximum pressure” campaign.

Following Israel’s strikes on June 13, Iran’s parliament approved a bill to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Trump administration claims to have significantly damaged key nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan.

If Tehran withdraws from the IAEA, it will be harder for experts to assess the damage caused by US and Israeli missiles. Building a nuclear bomb requires uranium enrichment, specifically a radioactive isotope called U-235, which becomes more powerful with higher refinement.

Nuclear power plants require uranium with a U-235 content of 0.7% to 5%, while weapons-grade uranium requires 90% enrichment. The IAEA states that Iran currently has about 400 kg of uranium enriched to 60%, which could yield around 10 nuclear warheads if enriched to 90%.

Iran Watch warns that Iran could enrich enough uranium for one nuclear weapon in four months and five weapons in one year and eight months. However, Iran would also need to build a warhead and develop a missile.

If U.S. claims about damage to Iran’s nuclear sites are accurate, these efforts would face significant setbacks. Israel’s military strength in the Middle East comes not only from its conventional arsenal and U.S. support but also from its presumed advanced nuclear program, which it has never officially acknowledged, confirmed, or denied its existence.

Israel has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, so it is not subject to IAEA inspections of its nuclear facilities. Since the 1960s, the country has maintained a policy of nuclear ambiguity, initially concealing its nuclear ambitions even from close allies.

U.S. inspectors were misled during early visits to the Nuclear Research Center near Dimona, which was falsely presented as a textile factory.  Current estimates of Israel’s nuclear stockpile range from 90 to 400 warheads, capable of being delivered by air, as well as through submarine-launched cruise missiles and ballistic missiles from the Jericho line.

A few days before Israel attacked Iran, which killed many civilians, Iran threatened to release Israeli nuclear secrets it claimed to have obtained. Iranian intelligence minister Esmail Khatib stated that they had a collection of sensitive documents related to Israel’s nuclear facilities.

In response, the U.S. struck three nuclear sites in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. President Trump declared that Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facilities had been “completely obliterated,” stressing that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons that could threaten Israel or the West. Sir Keir Starmer backed the strikes, calling the nuclear program “a grave threat to international security.”

James 1:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

James 1:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtainye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Luke 21:9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.

Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and diseases; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Revelations 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
