If their value dropped to zero, the companies managing the funds and the framework protecting your savings would vanish. The notion of a “retirement account” would become a relic of the past.

Many view decentralized currencies like Bitcoin as a safeguard against the collapse of traditional finance. However, they rely entirely on the internet and a stable electricity supply, as the blockchain depends on a global network of computers communicating to validate transactions.

A nuclear war that destroys power grids and data centers would disable the network, making your cryptocurrency holdings as inaccessible as funds in a defunct online bank account. This shows that cryptocurrency is not the foolproof safe haven that some believe.
