God’s truth is capturing the attention of many, as Bibles are flying off the shelves this year. Bible sales have surged by an astounding 22% through the end of October compared to last year, marking a definitive “golden age of Bible publishing,” as The Wall Street Journal reported.
This figure is important for several reasons. While U.S. book sales increased by less than 1% during the same period, the Bible’s sales growth clearly surpassed the overall performance of the print literary market.
This demonstrates the Bible’s truth in times of uncertainty. The Bible states that you are born again through the word of God, and as newborn babies, you must grow by the word.
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Recent data shows a notable increase in Bible sales, rising from 9.7 million in 2019 to 14.2 million in 2023. Even more striking, in the first ten months of 2024, 13.7 million copies have already been sold, with two months still to add to this remarkable total. This trend underscores the growing interest and commitment to spiritual reading today.
Many are wondering about the reasons behind the increase in interest. I believe the Chaos in the present world is caused by the news and social media, and the uncertainty is causing people to look for stability and hope at the end of the world.
A bookstore manager mentioned that she has noticed many first-time buyers coming in to seek Scriptures, people who are on a quest for stability, answers, and hope. Young people today are actively seeking answers to life’s challenging questions, particularly as cultural confusion intensifies.
Approximately 44% of Gen Z adults aged 18-26 were strongly curious about Jesus and the Bible. Nearly half of Gen Z reported that the Bible has significantly transformed their lives. Specifically, among older Gen Z individuals aged 18-21, 49% indicated this transformation, while 52% of those aged 22-26 made the same claim.
According to the American Bible Society’s chief program officer, 21% of Gen Z adults reported in the organization’s 2024 “State of the Bible” survey—following the 2023 data—that they have increased their use of the Bible over the past year.
He noted, “They’re leaning into the Bible; they’re genuinely trying to engage with their faith, and they represent a bright hope for us as a young generation of American adults.”
Recent research provides compelling evidence of the profound influence that maintaining a consistent connection with God can have on the lives of young individuals. This connection to the word gives a sense of purpose and strong moral values, which are crucial during their lives. Will this positive trend continue as we look ahead to 2025 and beyond?
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The words of the Bible are much more than just ink on paper. They are God-breathed, a direct communication from God himself. The power and truth contained within its pages have the ability to transform lives and offer eternal life.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2 Timothy 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works..
Attending church alone won’t grant eternal life. Submission to the word is key. Be a doer, not just a hearer. Follow the teachings to attain eternal life.
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
The scripture instructs us to both read and study it in order to understand and follow its teachings. Failure to do so results in self-deception.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
