Rightly Dividing the Word of God!
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Studying the word of God is crucial to understanding God’s principles and how to apply them to oneself.
A desire to learn, a good dictionary, and a Strong concordance with your Bible are good starts.
Rightly divided in Greek means correctly understanding the Word of God.
We do this by precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and they’re a little, as Isaiah teaches.
Always keep the Word in context, which means the situation within which something exists or happens.
If you take any subject and then take a Strong’s and look up all the scriptures on that word, those scriptures will lead you to the Truth on that subject.
That is the correct way to divide the Word rightly. This way, the Word is teaching you the Truth through many scriptures on a certain subject.
Many people in the church world don’t go by the word; they rely instead on books, denominational teachings, or something they heard a preacher teach to base their doctrine on.
1 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
1 Timothy 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly he furnished unto all good works.
Basing your beliefs on one or two scriptures can lead you down the wrong path. All doctrines should be based on many scriptures, and they should be based on whatever subject you are studying.
What you base your salvation on is a doctrine that has eternal consequences. So work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
