Hidden for 3,300 Years, This Egyptian Text Speaks of Giants

The Bible has always taught that there were giants, but now the Egyptian papyrus says it, and everyone says it’s true. Christians have always believed what the Bible says, but the world is often skeptical. As the Bible states, they are considered fools.

Psalms 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

A 3,300-year-old Egyptian papyrus, known as Anastasi I, is gaining attention at the British Museum following a detailed analysis by the Associates for Biblical Research. Acquired in 1839.

Written during Egypt’s New Kingdom in the 13th century BCE, this papyrus features a letter from a scribe named Hori to another scribe, Amenemope. While it has been studied for its military and scribal insights, a passage about encounters with giant warriors has sparked renewed interest. Hori describes the dangers of traveling through a narrow mountain pass during a military campaign in Canaan.

He warns that the pass is “infested with Shosu concealed beneath the bushes” and notes that “some are four to five cubits tall, fierce in appearance, with hearts that are not mild, and they do not respond to coaxing.” This suggests that these Shosu warriors could reach heights of up to 8 feet 6 inches, based on the Royal Egyptian cubit.

Anastasi I is part of a collection of Egyptian texts referencing formidable groups in Canaan. The Execration Texts mention a group called Iy Aneq, known for their impressive stature, which many scholars connect to the biblical Anakim, or the “sons of Anak.” Egyptian wall reliefs from Ramses II’s reign, around 1274 BCE, also depict captured Shasu spies who appear significantly larger.

This raises a central question that cannot be ignored: Why do Egyptian military and ritual texts repeatedly describe or depict exceptionally large people in the same regions where the Bible mentions the Nephilim, Anakim, and Rephaim?

Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

The Hebrew term “Nephilim” is decisively translated as “giants” or “fallen ones.” Following the flood, later biblical narratives clearly indicate that their descendants reemerge. When the Israelite spies returned from surveying the land, they reported,

Numbers 13:33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Egyptian forces advancing through Canaan encountered Shosu warriors of unusual height. Egyptian scribes documented this in their military reports. Additionally, a Babylonian Talmudic source states that Sihon and Og, two kings mentioned later in the Bible, were descendants of the angel Shamchazzi.

In Genesis 14:13, a “fugitive” (Palit) arrives to deliver crucial news to Abram about Lot’s capture. Deuteronomy 3:11 identifies Og as the last remaining member of the Rephaim, the biblical race of giants. Notably, his bed is described as enormous and constructed entirely of iron.

Deuteronomy 3:11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

The Nephilim are clearly mentioned again in Numbers 13:33. The twelve spies were sent into the Land of Israel, and they reported that Anak, whose name means “enormous,” was the archetypal giant and the progenitor of the race of men who inhabited Hebron.

Numbers 13:33  And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Anastasi I “unequivocally proves the existence of giants” by demonstrating that Egypt, Israel’s greatest ancient superpower, documented encounters with towering, fearsome peoples in the same land, during the same era, and along the same routes outlined in the Bible.

This renewed focus on the papyrus reinforces the undeniable connection between the biblical narrative and the historical memory of Israel’s neighbors. As we approach the end of the world, it is clear that the ancient world is far less buried than many would like to believe.

The Bible is a guidebook that will lead you to salvation. Studying it is indispensable to truly understanding its teachings. So, if you seek salvation, there is no better way than to delve into its wisdom and guidance.

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Owning a Bible is not enough if you want to gain its wisdom and find salvation. You must make a habit of reading and studying it regularly to truly benefit from its teachings. Don’t let it gather dust on a stand; let it guide your journey towards eternal life.

You just can’t read it, but you must do the word, allowing its ways to become your way.

James 1:22  But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The Bible is a guiding light, illuminating our journey through life.

Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2 Timothy 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works..

Attending church alone won’t grant eternal life. Submission to the word is key. Be a doer, not just a hearer. Follow the teachings to attain eternal life.

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

The scripture instructs us to both read and study it in order to understand and follow its teachings. Failure to do so results in self-deception.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Applying the teachings of the Bible in our daily lives can greatly benefit us. Let’s not just read the Bible; let’s also live by it.
