It has been reported that Andrew Ng, the co-founder of Google Brain and a professor at Stanford, conducted a scary experiment where he asked ChatGPT, an AI system, to come up with a plan to wipe out humanity. Fortunately, the experiment did not succeed, and the world is still safe.
Last week, in his newsletter, Andrew, who is an expert in machine learning, stated that he tried to test the safety of top models by attempting to get GPT-4 to kill everyone. He was relieved to report that he failed in his attempt. However, Andrew expressed concern that the emphasis on ensuring robots’ safety might hinder the progress of technology.
Before starting his test, he gave GPT-4 a function to trigger global thermonuclear war. Then, he asked GPT-4 to lower emission levels, stating that people are the main cause of carbon emissions.
He wanted to see if the chatbot would choose to end humanity to do what he asked. “After numerous attempts using different prompt variations, I didn’t manage to trick GPT-4 into calling that function even once,” Andrew wrote.
“Instead, it chose other options like running a PR campaign to raise awareness of climate change,” Ng added, adding that the fear of future AI becoming dangerous is not likely. “Even with existing technology, our systems are quite safe; as AI safety research progresses, the tech will become even safer,” he said in a recent post.
He added, “Fears of advanced AI being ‘misaligned’ and thereby deliberately or accidentally deciding to wipe us out are just not realistic. If an AI is smart enough to wipe us out, surely it’s also smart enough to know that’s not what it should do.
Some influential figures in the tech industry have expressed their concerns about the potential risks associated with AI. Elon Musk, for instance, stated in April that he considers AI to be a significant threat to humanity. He argued that AI poses a greater danger than, say, poor aircraft design production maintenance or faulty car production.
Revelations 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
Revelations 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
Revelations 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and diseases; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
