The climate crisis is not a new battle; it has long captivated the hearts and minds of environmentalists and scientists alike.
As global warming became a pressing concern, the UN warned the public about potential climate threats. The UN World Water Development Report 2025 revealed that mountain environments are severely impacted, leading to accelerated glacier melting and heightened risks of climate change.
Glacier ice loss threatens marine life and reduces human drinking water availability. The report highlights that climate disruption, biodiversity loss, and unsustainable practices drive changes in glacial activity. This decline in glaciers and snowfall will affect two-thirds of the world’s irrigated agriculture.
UNESCO reports that the population’s access to food and water is at risk due to the precarious state of the mountains and glaciers. “These crucial natural water towers are in imminent danger. Urgent action is needed, and effective solutions require a multilateral approach,” said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.
Mountain glaciers provide freshwater for millions and, if they melt entirely, could raise global sea levels by 13 inches. Several studies, including over 230 regional estimates from 35 research teams worldwide, have examined the rate of ice loss in glaciers and its potential increase.
Greenland and Antarctica lose an average of 270 billion tonnes of ice yearly due to rising temperatures. Researchers employed both direct and community-based estimations for their evaluations.
One billion people in mountainous regions and half of the population in developing countries are experiencing food insecurity. Food production relies on water from these areas, making the situation likely to worsen.
Developed countries also face challenges, such as the ongoing drought in the Colorado River basin since 2000. Higher temperatures are causing more precipitation to fall as rain, leading to faster evaporation, which exacerbates the drought and raises further concerns, according to research from the World Meteorological Organization.
The organization reported that the record’s largest three-year glacier mass loss occurred recently. Since 1975, glaciers have lost about 9,000 gigatons of ice, roughly equivalent to an ice block the size of Germany and 25 meters thick, according to the director of the World Glacier Monitoring Service in Switzerland.
The report was released during a UNESCO summit in Paris, marking the first World Day for Glaciers. Authorities are urging global action to protect glaciers. “We must enhance scientific knowledge and improve observing systems and early warning systems for the planet and its people,” stated the WMO director of water and cryosphere.
Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Matthew 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
Matthew 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and diseases; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
