What Really Happened at Pentecost: The Spirit of Truth Filled Them

Pentecost is the day when the Holy Spirit of Truth descended and filled the 120 people gathered in the upper room.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Soul, in Hebrew and Greek, means to breathe in and take in air, the air that causes us to be alive.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

Spirit, in Hebrew and Greek, means to breathe out your mental disposition, thoughts, or words that are you.

Your spirit is your breath out, your thoughts in your mind, or your words, the inner person that makes you who you are.

This is why we are judged for every word that proceeds out of our mouths.

Matthew 12:36-37 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words, thou shalt be justified, and by thy words, thou shalt be condemned.

Words are important because God is the Word, and those words became flesh, Jesus Christ.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

That is why the Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth and will lead you into all truth. When we are born again, we are born of the spirit of truth.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

And Peter tells us that the born-again experience is by the word of God.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

We grow in our Christian faith by studying the Word and allowing its teachings to transform us.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
