The word”gospel” in the Bible refers to the good news. It is derived from the Greek word “euangelion” which means good news.
Nowadays, newspapers are typically filled with negative news stories.
The Gospel is the good news about the coming kingdom of God, the salvation obtainable through Christ, and all that relates to this salvation.
The first four books of the New Testament are known as the gospels. John the Baptist declared, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near!” The much-awaited Messiah, Jesus, preached that the good news was about the kingdom.
The good news is:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
“People often share their personal experience of becoming a Christian with their neighbors, stating that they have given their heart to Jesus.
While this is a way to testify about what Jesus has done in their lives, they may not necessarily be sharing the gospel with their neighbors. It’s important to remember that the gospel is not about us but the good news of Jesus Christ.”
The essence of the gospel is centered on Jesus Christ and what he accomplished, not on us. It is about the atoning death of Jesus on the cross, his resurrection from the dead and ascension into heaven, and his eventual return.
The gospel of Christ, as revealed in the New Testament, is all about Jesus and the good news of what he accomplished during his time on earth.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.
Paul stated that belief in God is the key to salvation and that this power is available to everyone who believes.
The power that Paul was speaking of is:
Ephesians 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
Ephesians 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Ephesians 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world but also in that which is to come:
“And because of this, we too have eternal life.”
1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
John says that here is God’s love, not that we loved him, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Jesus Christ was sent to bear our sins, died, was resurrected, and shall return for those who obey him.
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
1 Corinthians 15: 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
