Scientists have revealed that climate change is causing significant damage to Earth and may soon affect its orbit.
According to a new MIT study, the increasing issue of space debris is likely to worsen, which may reduce the available space for satellites in low Earth orbit.
Researchers have calculated that the ongoing warming trend could reduce available orbital space by as much as one-third to 82 percent by the end of the century. The culprit is a weakened natural cleaning mechanism in the upper atmosphere.
The greenhouse effect warms the lower atmosphere and cools the upper layers where satellites operate. This cooling reduces atmospheric density, which lessens the drag that usually pulls space debris down toward Earth, allowing it to burn up upon re-entry.
As a result, a less dense upper atmosphere leads to a more inefficient removal of space debris. As this debris accumulates, the risk of collisions increases, threatening the operation of vital satellites. Earth depends on the atmosphere to help clean up its debris.
“There is no alternative to removing debris,” asserted an astrodynamics researcher at MIT. “It’s pure garbage and millions of pieces of it.” Orbiting Earth are millions of debris fragments that measure at least one-ninth of an inch (3 millimeters) in size, roughly the width of two stacked pennies, and collide with a bullet’s force.
According to The Aerospace Corporation, which monitors orbital debris, there are tens of thousands of pieces of space junk about the size of plums. When these pieces collide, they hit with the force of a crashing bus. This debris consists of remnants from old space crashes and parts of rockets, with most of it being too small to track.
According to the tracking website Orbiting Now, there are currently 11,905 satellites orbiting Earth, with 7,356 in low Earth orbit. Satellites play a crucial role in communications, navigation, weather forecasting, and monitoring environmental and national security issues. There used to be a common belief that space was vast.
We sometimes struggle to be responsible stewards of the environment because it feels virtually limitless. However, the 2009 collision of two satellites resulted in thousands of pieces of space debris. NASA’s measurements indicate a reduction in drag, leading scientists to recognize that climate change’s impact is truly significant.
The atmosphere’s density at 250 miles (400 kilometers) above Earth decreases by approximately 2 percent per decade. According to a space weather scientist from the British Antarctic Survey, this trend is expected to worsen as society continues to emit more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Luke 17:26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
Luke 17:27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
Luke 17:28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
Luke 17:29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
Luke 17:30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and diseases; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Matthew 24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
Matthew 24:46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Matthew 24:47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. And the evil servant would not be watching for his return and he would receive the same as a hypocrite.
Matthew 24:48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
Matthew 24:50 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
Matthew 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work sin.
