Boeing Co. accelerated delivery of 1,000 smart bombs to Israel as the country retaliates against Hamas after the devastating weekend attack that killed hundreds of people, industry and defense officials said.
The 250-pound Diameter Bombs, part of a 2021 contract, were flown from an Air Force base in the US by Israeli Air Force transport, according to an industry official who asked not to be identified discussing the arrangements.
The weapons, which can launched by Israel’s jets from over 40 miles (64 kilometers), with each aimed at specific targets, “provide the means to target terrorists in Gaza while minimizing civilian casualties precisely,” said a military analyst with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, who tracks Middle East military issues.
He said that’s an important capability, considering Hamas holds Israeli hostages. Separately, the USA is expected to announce fresh supplies of weapons to Israel, which receives more than $3 billion in US military aid every year.
Hamas attack on Israel, now the conflict has spread north. The Israel Defense Forces have carried out artillery strikes in Lebanon following rocket fire from the country on northern Israel.
The Israeli military has also reinforced its border with Lebanon. Hezbollah, the Iran-backed terrorist organization that launched rockets into Israel Sunday morning, said in a statement that, in response to Israeli action, it had attacked the Pranit Barracks, which is the command center of the Galilee Division, and the Avivim Barracks, which is a clerical command center affiliated with the Western Brigade, using guided missiles.
Mortar shells hit them directly. Hezbollah was founded during the Lebanese Civil War in the 1980s with the of eliminating the State of Israel. The group has a history of waging war on the Jewish state, instigating the 2006 Lebanon War with rocket fire at Israeli border towns and the launching of anti-tank missiles at Israeli armored vehicles.
The Israeli military also killed two gunmen who entered Israeli territory from the north, while a third fled into Lebanon.

“Israel will win this war, and when Israel wins, the civilized world wins.”
