Billions of hungry insects are threatening to cause famine amid the coronavirus pandemic. Ferocious attack from Afghanistan to Pakistan from swarms of locust.
The desert locusts are entering Pakistan from four countries including Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, and Djibouti via Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Iran. As fears rise that the locusts will travel to India due to monsoon winds.
Last month, India faced its locust invasion as skies above parts of the north of the country blackened as swarms of locust went through the sky. Swarms of locusts the size of major cities have been devouring entire farms in Africa in as little as 30 seconds.
A swarm containing around 40 million locusts can consume as much food as would be eaten by 35,000 people in a single day.
When they do descend, they can have almost total devastation on crops Countries that are already dealing with a drastic economic and health crisis due to COVID-19 is on the verge of facing the worst agricultural crisis as well.
