To provide an example, let’s consider what would occur in the event of a nuclear attack on America if North Korea were to launch a one-megaton nuclear warhead at the US. The reason behind North Korea’s actions is much less important than the potential consequences.
According to Jacobsen’s reporting, the US has only 44 interceptor missiles with a 50% success rate, while North Korea has around 50 nuclear weapons. The entire interceptor missile program is currently on “strategic pause.”
Once a North Korean attack is detected, the doomsday clock starts ticking. The US President has six minutes to decide whether to use the “Launch on Warning” policy and fire America’s missiles in a counterattack. President Ronald Reagan referred to this time in his memoirs, questioning how anyone could decide to “unleash Armageddon” in such a short period based on a blip on the radar scope.
This is the concept of sole authority, where the US President is the only person who can decide whether to start a nuclear war. He asks permission from no one, not the Secretary of Defense, not the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, not the US Congress.
Amidst the chaos of decision-making, several critical events unfold. The president must be relocated to a secure location. The US Strategic Command (STRATCOM) will advocate for issuing launch orders and selecting targets. Subsequently, the president retrieves a card from his wallet known as the biscuit, which contains a code to authorize a nuclear attack. Upon receiving the command, STRATCOM initiates a nuclear triad deployment, consisting of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), B52 bomber missiles, and submarine-based missiles.
US presidents and their advisors understand nuclear deterrence, which means that if a country attacks the US with nuclear weapons, the US will retaliate automatically. This concept is known as mutually assured destruction (MAD).
MAD has deterred nuclear war so far, but if an attack happens, it will fail. It would take around 30 minutes for a North Korean missile to reach the East coast of the US, with the Pentagon as the likely first target. The fireball from a one-megaton nuclear weapon is massive, leaving nothing behind. Before the bomb even detonates, a blast wave would push out, creating rubble up to 10 miles away.
Following the initial impact, mega-fires will spread, and fierce winds will have the power to cause severe radiation burns, potentially ripping off people’s faces. Following that, a suction force will occur. What is commonly known as the stem of a mushroom cloud will hold the remnants of the Pentagon, the nearby city of Washington, D.C., and anyone present in the area.
The United States would need to launch missiles at North Korea over Russia because they don’t have enough range. If Russia interprets this as an attack, according to the MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) policy, it could launch an attack on the US. Simply telling Putin to “just trust us” may not be effective, and this could lead to the start of World War III.
The bombs would stop falling 72 minutes after the first launch. After that, each nuclear weapon would start a mega-fire estimated to burn between 100 and 300 square miles. Communications and electricity would also be down.
Cities and forests are ablaze, releasing 300 billion pounds of soot into the air. Experts estimate that the soot would block out the sun, potentially causing a “nuclear winter.” This could lead to the formation of ice sheets, resulting in the freezing of water in places like Iowa for 10 years. Additionally, there would be no electricity.
Billions perish from starvation and other issues. As the sun reemerges in approximately 10 years, the events have significantly depleted the ozone layer, rendering the sun’s rays effectively poisonous. Throughout the thaw, an increasing number of animals face extinction, although small creatures like insects can rebound swiftly. It is unclear if humans would find a way to survive.

James 1:2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Luke 21:9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.
Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and diseases; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Revelations 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
