New Warning Issued Over Nuclear Risks in Iran War

The US-Israeli conflict with Iran has escalated over three weeks, raising concerns about a potential nuclear disaster from weapons of mass destruction or an accident at a nuclear power plant.

Over a dozen countries are involved in the conflict, impacting the global economy. There are no signs of willingness to back down from any side. Donald Trump has threatened to “finish off” Iran, while Israel seeks to dismantle its regime. Iran aims to restore its deterrence and pursue the war on its terms. Mediators note a troubling lack of meaningful diplomacy to resolve the situation.

The UN nuclear watchdog warned that a projectile hit Iran’s Bushehr nuclear reactor, raising disaster concerns. U.S. officials, including David Sacks, cautioned that Israel might prepare to use its undeclared nuclear arsenal. Meanwhile, Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium remains largely unaccounted for, and the WHO is conducting worst-case scenario drills.

Riyadh has threatened military action after Iran’s first use of ballistic missiles targeted Saudi oil fields, coinciding with Israel’s attack on Iran’s largest gas facility. Despite regular attacks throughout the conflict, Gulf states have been reluctant to retaliate.

However, Saudi Arabia has signaled its patience is wearing thin, with the defense ministry showcasing military preparations. Andreas Krieg from King’s College London noted that Gulf capitals are discussing more offensive actions to restore deterrence.

If Saudi Arabia chooses to respond, it may use its defense pact with Pakistan as a nuclear deterrent. Commentator Salman al-Ansari stated that full engagement in conflict would have serious consequences for Iran due to this agreement, suggesting a nuclear umbrella over Saudi Arabia. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also warned Iran, saying, “I informed them that we have a defense agreement.”

The agreement is “intentionally ambiguous in both scope and implementation,” particularly concerning its nuclear aspects, according to Amina Khan of the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad. Pakistan prioritizes “regional stability” and seeks to mediate between conflicting parties.

Despite recent tensions with Tehran, including airstrikes, the two countries collaborate on security and economic issues. Iran is viewed as a nuclear threshold state, capable of producing nuclear weapons if it chooses, with a stockpile of highly enriched uranium nearing weapons-grade.

Recent U.S. intelligence suggests that Iran is not actively pursuing a nuclear bomb, but its nuclear infrastructure still poses significant risks. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that a missile struck the Russian-operated Bushehr nuclear power plant, Iran’s only active nuclear reactor.

Russia’s ambassador to the IAEA, Mikhail Ulyanov, warned that this incident could lead to a major nuclear disaster affecting the region. Pavel Podvig, a nuclear specialist at the UN Institute for Disarmament Research, emphasized the importance of avoiding attacks on nuclear facilities during the conflict.

“There is a risk of radioactive contamination that could spread throughout the Gulf,” Podvig warned, noting that a meltdown at the Bushehr nuclear plant might have effects similar to the Fukushima disaster in 2011, which forced mass evacuations.

Nuclear weapons specialist David Albright suggested that an accident could create a “dead zone” like Fukushima and called for a US-Russian task force to ensure safety at the plant. “The US should lead this effort with Russia,” he stated, despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for collaboration given the significant risks involved.

In June, the Trump administration declared that all options, including tactical nuclear weapons, were on the table for addressing Iranian nuclear facilities. The U.S. military then used GBU-57 bunker busters, with Trump stating that the Iranian nuclear program was “totally obliterated.” He warned that Iran was close to acquiring a nuclear weapon and threatened severe military consequences.

A former U.S. State Department official indicated that Trump might consider using tactical nuclear weapons against deeply buried targets. In response, Democrats in Congress proposed a bill to limit a president’s authority over nuclear weapon usage.

U.S. officials have expressed concerns about Israel potentially using nuclear weapons. David Sacks, a Trump advisor, warned that Netanyahu’s government might consider this if facing large-scale destruction from enemy rocket fire, especially as missile interceptors are depleted.

Trump minimized the claim, stating that Israel’s nuclear weapons aren’t “ready to go” and need U.S. coordination. Cohen noted that serious nuclear options were only considered by Israel during the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The IAEA estimates that around 220 kg of Iran’s highly enriched uranium is stored at the Isfahan facility, which the U.S. targeted last year.

More than half of Iran’s estimated stockpile of 460 kg remains unaccounted for, potentially enough for several nuclear bombs. Ken Katzman, a former CIA official, warned that a radicalized Iranian regime might be motivated to develop nuclear weapons as a deterrent.

However, any effort would require quick action due to heavy monitoring of nuclear sites, and Iran’s technology for the critical detonator phase is still unproven. Katzman expressed concern that if Iran assembled 300 to 400 advanced centrifuges, they could potentially produce 50 to 100 kg of enriched uranium, sufficient for one or two nuclear weapons.

James 2:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

James 2:2  Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Luke 21:9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.

Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and diseases; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Revelations 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
