The archaeological community is abuzz with excitement following compelling new revelations made at the 7th International Symposium on Mount Ararat and Noah’s Ark, which took place in eastern Turkey.
A team of experts from Istanbul Technical University, Agri Ibrahim Cecen University, and Andrews University in the United States has been collaborating since 2021 under the name Mount Ararat and Noah’s Ark Research Team.
The team is fully committed to the Durupinar formation, a prominent 538-foot geological structure made of limonite located approximately 30 kilometers south of Mount Ararat’s summit.
This site is strategically positioned near the border between Turkey and Iran in the Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı, and our focus is unwavering.The Durupinar formation has long fascinated researchers and explorers because of its ship-like shape and dimensions, which resemble the biblical description of Noah’s Ark.
According to the Bible, the Ark was “three hundred cubits in length, fifty cubits in width, and thirty cubits in height.” The structure is definitively measured at approximately 150 meters in length, firmly supporting this account.
During a crucial phase of their project, the team collected nearly 30 samples of rock and soil from the site. These samples were promptly sent to Istanbul Technical University for analysis, which uncovered significant traces of clay-like materials, marine deposits, and remnants of seafood, including mollusks.
Experts have confirmed that the materials date back between 3,500 and 5,000 years, clearly aligning with the Chalcolithic period, which spans from 5,500 to 3,000 BCE. This period is definitively linked to the era of the biblical flood described in Genesis.
“Initial findings suggest human activities have occurred in this region since the Chalcolithic period,” said the Vice Rector of Agri Ibrahim Cecen University and lead researcher. “The symposium concluded with a decision to conduct further research in the Cudi and Ararat mountains, part of the Mesopotamian region.”
The discovery of marine substances and shellfish in the samples suggests that the area was once submerged underwater. These findings bolster theories that a catastrophic flood occurred in the region, aligning with the narrative of a universal flood found in the Bible.
“Our research definitively demonstrates that this region supported life during that period and was at one time submerged underwater. This strongly suggests that a substantial catastrophic event took place,” the researchers declared.
The Durupinar formation was initially discovered in 1948 by a Kurdish farmer and captured international attention in 1951 when Turkish Army Captain Ilhan Durupinar brought it to light during a NATO mapping mission. Recent analyses by a dedicated research team have decisively reignited interest in the formation.
Employing technology and geological analysis techniques, their work focuses on examining the site’s geological and archaeological significance.
