New Bible Research: Evidence of a Divine Author

The Bible contains a vast network of more than 63,000 connections that undeniably demonstrate it is God-breathed.

2 Timothy 3:16  All scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

A computer scientist from Carnegie Mellon University and a Lutheran pastor in Germany discovered connections across all 66 books of the Bible, linking people, events, and themes in the Old and New Testaments.

They created a visualization that displays every chapter from Genesis to Revelation along a single line, with vertical bars representing chapters and taller bars indicating sections with more verses.

Curved lines connect related passages in the Bible, with darker lines highlighting those with the most connections. This creates a rainbow-like pattern that shows how intricately the Bible is woven together.

One compelling example directly links Genesis 2:9, which depicts the Tree of Life in Eden, to Revelation 22:2, where this powerful symbol reemerges in the Bible’s ultimate vision of paradise.

Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Revelations 22:2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Another connects Exodus 12, describing the Passover lamb, to John 1:29, where Jesus is referred to as the ‘Lamb of God.’

Exodus 12 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

The prophetic passage in Isaiah 7:14 is also linked to Matthew 1:23, which connects the verse to the birth of Jesus centuries later.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

The network comprises books attributed to more than 40 authors, crafted over approximately 1,500 years. It distinctly bridges three continents—Asia, Africa, and Europe—and encompasses three languages: Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

The project confidently identified 63,779 connections by merging religious scholarship with modern data analysis. This innovative approach transforms centuries of textual study into a structured dataset that clearly reveals thousands of relationships between verses.

The network was created in 2007 by a computer scientist and a Lutheran pastor, who compiled a digital dataset of Bible cross-references. It has recently gained attention on social media, with many citing it as evidence of a unified message in scripture.

A user on X remarked, “It’s impossible to gather 20 people, ask them to write an essay on the same topic, and expect agreement.”

A pastor pointed out that the Bible connects stories across generations, centered on Jesus. These connections—called cross-references—link passages with similar themes or people and are often found in the margins of study Bibles.

Each cross-reference establishes a definitive conceptual link between separate passages. For example, Isaiah 53 describes the suffering servant who is wounded for others, while John 19 vividly details the crucifixion of Jesus.

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

John 19:1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.

John 19:2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,

John 19:3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

John 19:16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

John 19:23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

The crossing of the Red Sea in Exodus 14 is prominently referenced in Hebrews 11, firmly linking the early accounts of deliverance to the later teachings on faith.

Exodus 14:29 But the children of Israel walked upon dry land in the midst of the sea; and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.

Hebrews 11:9 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

Genesis 12:3, which promises blessings through Abraham, is later connected to Galatians 3:8, which is interpreted centuries later.

Genesis 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

In Numbers 21:9, Moses unequivocally raises a bronze serpent, which directly connects to John 3:14, where this act is powerfully compared to Jesus being lifted on the cross.

Numbers 21:9  And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

John 3:14  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

The project aimed to go beyond simply cataloging references by revealing the depth and complexity of scripture in a visually striking format. The goal was to balance beauty and meaning while honoring the intricacies of the biblical text.

The visualization allows viewers to see the overall structure of connections while discovering intricate details up close. Curved lines link related passages across different sections of the text.

Each line’s color indicates the distance between chapters, forming a rainbow-like pattern that visually represents extensive cross-references in the scripture. Proponents argue that the density of these connections highlights the remarkable consistency among books written by various authors over time.

The Bible, written over centuries by various authors, includes diverse historical periods, cultural contexts, and literary styles. The connections between early Old Testament passages and later New Testament teachings are often seen as evidence of theological continuity.

The discovery of tens of thousands of interconnected references decisively proves the case for divine inspiration. It is clear that maintaining thematic unity across such an expansive text required extraordinary coordination, particularly since many biblical books were written over generations.

The phrase “precept must be upon precept” implies a structured learning process in which foundational truths build upon one another.

Isaiah 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

Isaiah 28:13 But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is alive, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Timothy 3:16  All scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

Matthew 4:4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.
