Is (AI) Artificial Intelligence in the Book of Revelation?

At 77, Geoffrey Hinton has a new purpose as he warns about the dangers of unregulated artificial intelligence.

Known as the “Godfather of AI,” Hinton is a leading figure in the field due to his pioneering work on deep learning and neural networks, which fundamentally shaped the AI technologies that dominate today.

After more than a decade at Google, he took a bold step in 2023 by publicly voicing his concerns, acknowledging that he feels “somewhat responsible” for the consequences of his innovations.

As technology and investment in artificial intelligence have rapidly progressed in recent years, the stakes have risen dramatically. “(It truly is godlike),” asserted Hinton. He stands among a growing number of influential tech leaders who unapologetically employ divine language to describe the power and impact of AI.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has described his company’s technology as “a remarkable intelligence in the sky,” while Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and Palantir, has even asserted that (AI could lead to the emergence of the Antichrist.)

While chatbots like ChatGPT may have only recently captured public attention, certain Silicon Valley experts have long recognized the immense power of AI. “We are determined to raise awareness,” Hinton asserted. “It’s essential for the public to grasp the risks, as this understanding will empower them to demand that politicians take decisive action.”

“Researchers like Hinton warn that AI poses an existential threat, while some CEOs and theorists believe we are approaching a technological apocalypse that could lead to a new era of human evolution.”

Computer scientist and author Ray Kurzweil has confidently asserted since the 1990s that humanity will inevitably merge with technology, a concept known as transhumanism.

He states, “We will not be able to differentiate between what comes from our own brains and what originates from AI. Everything will be seamlessly integrated within us.” He stated, “It’s going to make us more intelligent.” When asked if he considers AI to be his religion, he eventually conceded, “Yes.” This belief shapes his sense of purpose.

He explained, “My thoughts about the future, the rapid advancement of technology, and its implications definitely influence my attitude towards being present and what I’m doing. It also guides how I can impact others.”

While Thiel explicitly references language from the Book of Revelation, the optimistic visions of an AI future are more “apocalyptic” in the historical sense of the term.

“When people in the tech industry discuss creating a single, ultimate AI, it almost seems as if they believe they are (attempting to create God),” said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, during a podcast last year as he promoted his company’s own efforts in AI development.

Like Hinton, Tegmark, a physicist and machine learning researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been a strong advocate for addressing the significant risks posed by unregulated AI. In 2023, as president of the Future of Life Institute, Tegmark took decisive action by leading an open letter that called on powerful AI laboratories to “immediately pause” their system training.

The letter amassed more than 33,000 signatures, with prominent endorsements from Elon Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Tegmark asserts that the letter was a significant success, as it effectively brought AI safety discussions to the forefront of public attention. Nonetheless, he is determined to continue his efforts, recognizing that much work remains to be done.

Tegmark believes that with proper regulations and safeguards, AI can be an effective tool for curing diseases and boosting human productivity. However, he emphasizes the importance of avoiding the “rather fringe” race that some companies are engaging in — a “pseudoreligious pursuit” to create an (alternative form of God).

Revelation 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

Revelations 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

Revelations 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Revelations 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
