What Is Good Friday and Why Do Christians Observe It?

On Good Friday, there will be hundreds of millions of Christians around the world observing the day Jesus was nailed to the cross to save them from their sins.

The Friday before Easter, the day on which Christians annually observe the commemoration of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. From the early days of Christianity, Good Friday was observed as a day of sorrow, fasting, and prayer.

For Christians, Good Friday is a crucial day of the year because it celebrates what we believe to be the most momentous weekend in the world’s history.

Ever since Jesus died and was raised, Christians have proclaimed the cross and resurrection of Jesus to be the decisive turning point for all creation.

The disciples and the people who welcomed Jesus to Jerusalem expected a kingdom of this world, specifically of Israel.

Even as they walked with Jesus after the resurrection, the disciples still wondered when Jesus would restore the kingdom to Israel.

It is only after Christ’s ascension that the disciples realized the answer to that question is the kingdom is not limited to Israel.

God has placed all things in heaven and earth under the feet of Jesus Christ.
