What is the love of God?

Many individuals identifying as Christians often overlook the fundamental principle that God is love. Recently, particularly after COVID-19, a sense of compassion for others seems to have diminished.

Many people are focused solely on their interests, adopting a “me first” mentality. Television shows, news media, game shows, and social media heavily influence this shift in attitude.

There is a new religion in England called self-religion. I don’t think we need a religion of self since sinners already serve themselves and many so-called churches. The Bible teaches that God loved us first by sending his son to die for our sins.

1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 4:19 We love him because he first loved us.

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

The Bible teaches us to love one another; we are not of God if we do not love one another.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

The Bible teaches that to hate your brother means to hate anyone, not just blood relatives. If you say you love God while harboring hate, you are a liar. If you are a liar, then the devil is your father, not God.

1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

The devil said (“I”) five times before he fell.

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

Isaiah 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heavenI will exalt my throne above the stars of GodI will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Isaiah 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

God is not merely a source of love; He embodies the very essence of love itself. This foundational truth means that individuals who follow Christ naturally reflect this quality. Christians are called to demonstrate love in their actions and interactions with others.

This principle is outlined in 1 Corinthians 13, where the Apostle Paul discusses the supremacy of love. He teaches that love surpasses faith and hope. Therefore, love should be at the heart of every Christian’s life and witness.

1 Corinthians 13:13  And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

James emphasizes that loving your neighbor is  the royal law that should guide our actions and relationships.

James 2:8  If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

James 2:9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

James explains that a person is saved by faith, and that faith is shown by loving one’s neighbor. If you’re saved by faith, your good works by loving your neighbor will show you’re a Christian. Without that love, your faith is dead.

James 2:14  What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

James 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

James 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

James states that simply believing in God is insufficient, as even demons believe and tremble; they are not saved. True salvation is evidenced by a repentant heart and genuine love for God and one’s neighbor.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

James 2:20  But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Some false teachers live in luxury while deceiving people into giving them money to support their lavish lifestyles.

Other false teachers promote the idea that mere belief leads to salvation. However, reading the Bible reveals that true salvation requires repentance, being born again through the Word, and undergoing a transformation guided by those teachings.

2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

2 Timothy 4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

1 Timothy 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

1 Timothy 6:4  He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

1 Timothy 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

1 John 3:3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all your things be done with love.

Colossians 3:14 And above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfectness.

1 Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent love among yourselves: for love shall cover the multitude of sins.
