The joint warning emphasizes that a large-scale nuclear war between the US and Russia could claim over 200 million lives. Additionally, the possibility of a “nuclear winter” triggered by such a conflict could result in the death of 5-6 billion people, posing a severe threat to humanity’s survival.
Scientists caution that any use of nuclear weapons would have catastrophic consequences for humanity. Even a “limited” nuclear war involving a fraction of the world’s nuclear weapons could directly kill 120 million people and cause global climate disruption leading to a nuclear famine, putting 2 billion lives at risk.
