Is the Beast of Revelation artificial intelligence (AI) in Human Form as a Robot?
Nvidia has launched an initiative to develop “human-level AI in robotic form.” A top executive believes this advancement could “revolutionize artificial intelligence,” enabling it to take on a “human form.”
During the Global Management Dialogue in Tokyo, Masataka Osaki, Nvidia’s Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations, made an intriguing prediction about AI: “It will soon resemble a human form.” He noted, “The machine is to the body what AI is to the brain.”
He emphasized Japan’s potential to lead AI by quickly integrating AI with machines to create new services. Osaki praised the country’s efforts to build a domestic AI foundation and stressed the need to develop solutions using locally generated data.
Companies like Google, Microsoft, Tesla, and Boston Dynamics are working on giving AI models physical forms, known as “embodiment.” Nvidia aims to accelerate this process, with CEO Jensen Huang calling it one of the most exciting challenges in AI today.
At Nvidia’s annual GTC conference, CEO Jensen Huang announced advancements in robotics, stating that the future will likely focus on humanoid robots. To facilitate this, Nvidia introduced Project GR00T—short for “Generalist Robot 00 Technology.” This general-purpose AI model aims to serve as the brain for humanoid robots, enabling them to learn skills and tackle tasks in real time.
In a tweet, Nvidia researcher Linxi “Jim” Fan called the project “our moonshot to solve embodied AGI in the physical world.”AGI, or artificial general intelligence, is a poorly defined term that usually refers to hypothetical “human-level AI (or beyond)” that can learn any task a human could without specialized training. Given a capable enough “humanoid body driven by AGI,” one could imagine fully autonomous robotic assistants or workers.
Nvidia’s plan involves the GR00T model, enabling robots to understand various instructions—like language, video, and demonstrations—to perform useful tasks. “We are partnering with leading humanoid robotics companies globally to ensure GR00T can adapt to different models and support ecosystem growth,” wrote Fan on X.
Nvidia is developing GR00T to “understand natural language and mimic human movements.” This could help robots gain the coordination and skills needed to interact effectively with the real world. The company suggests that “human-shaped robots” might be key to creating functional robotic assistants.
Nvidia has introduced Jetson Thor, a new computer platform based on their Thor system-on-a-chip (SoC) and part of the Blackwell GPU architecture. This platform aims to power the next generation of humanoid robots and features a transformer engine capable of 800 teraflops of 8-bit floating-point AI computation for running models like GR00T.
Nvidia’s tools could help achieve “embodied humanoid AGI.” The company markets its robotics as public goods, but, like many tech firms, it often prioritizes profit and technological advancement over ethical considerations, driven by the “engineers’ science fiction-inspired aspirations.”
