New Scientific Study Affirms Bible: Jerusalem Was a Major City Under David and Solomon

Archaeologists and historians have been disputing for decades whether the description of Jerusalem in the Bible as a large city during the reigns of kings David and Solomon is accurate. Some skeptics have suggested that the biblical account is inaccurate and that Jerusalem was actually an insignificant town or village.

A recent scientific study conducted in Israel has confirmed the existence of a large urban area, as mentioned in the Scriptures. The study was carried out by the Israel Antiquities Authority, Tel Aviv University, and the Weizmann Institute of Science. It aimed to connect the events mentioned in the Bible with the archaeological findings discovered in the city of David using scientific methods.

The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) has recently announced new research findings that shed light on a longstanding and controversial research question. The research concerns the nature and scope of Jerusalem during the reigns of David and Solomon and thereafter. According to the IAA’s news release, the new research findings indicate that there was a widespread settlement in Jerusalem during this period.

As part of the research, scientists studied grape seeds, date pits, bat skeletons, and other natural materials found in structures at four different excavation areas in the City of David on the eastern and western slopes.

According to an IAA news release, precise dating of many findings in the City of David was possible by measuring the amount of carbon in the organic material and calculating it along with other variables.

Researchers utilized ancient tree rings from Europe to create a precise timeline of single-year dates. From this timeline, it is possible to accurately learn about fluctuations in the percentage of carbon-14 in the atmosphere.

The organization used scientific methods to reconstruct the history of Jerusalem from 1200 BCE up to the Babylonian destruction in 586 BCE, even before the time of David and Solomon mentioned in the Bible.

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, a recent scientific study provides compelling evidence that the city was a significant urban center during the time of David and Solomon, contrary to the beliefs of scholars who are skeptical about the historical accuracy of the Bible.
