Is it wrong for Christians to read stories with positive portrayals of magic?

YES, reading stories about magic is wasteful and unnecessary since the Bible is full of real powers, unlike fairy tales about magic.

If anyone tells you differently, then it’s obvious they have not read the Bible or do not understand its truth. Preachers who peddle this nonsense are usually of a worldly denomination who don’t go by the Bible.

What irritates me is when people who claim to be of God promote content as positive magic instead of sharing stories with substance that glorify God.

Preachers are supposed to glorify God by spreading the good news that is true, not fiction that is not true.

This world is full of fictional heroes, not true heroes. A good place to start is the Bible, specifically Hebrews chapter 11.

Jesus Christ is a real hero!

You can be a pastor or a theologian without knowing the truth. Theologians often err because they learn from teachers of varying beliefs across different denominations. You are receiving denomination theology, not Biblical truth.

If you are a Christian who believes in the Bible, you know novels about magic are wrong. To say there is good in it is specious. The Bible calls people who do this as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Having good qualities in something does not make it good; rather, it can deceive people into thinking that the subject is acceptable, like the subject of magic.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

2 Corinthians 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Any worldly teacher who tries to convince you otherwise is misleading you. Such a person would not only lie but is a worldly preacher, sharing their personal opinions instead of the truths found in the Bible.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.

Witchcraft is a sin. Research indicates that over half of Nigerians believe in witchcraft, while approximately three-quarters of Americans hold beliefs in the paranormal.

However, the Bible strongly condemns magical practices and associates them with demonic influence.

1 Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

The Old Testament condemns practices associated with magic right from the start, mentioning it in the third of its books.

Deuteronomy 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.

Deuteronomy 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

Here are a few scriptures about magic.

1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

1 John 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

1 John 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

I’m not going to waste my time or your time defending the Bible’s truth against those who lack understanding of God or teach that stories with positive portrayals of magic are okay. Just read the scriptures for yourself.

Deuteronomy 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Galatians 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

Galatians 5:21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Revelations 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.

This is what the Bible teaches about false teachers.

1 Timothy 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

2 Peter 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

2 Peter 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

Jude 1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

This is what happens to those who rebel and sin.

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Matthew 7:23  And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work sin.
