If we trust God with Eternity, why worry about today?

In the book of Matthew, Jesus challenges His followers, saying Do not worry about your life. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes?

Matthew 6:25  Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Believers must trust God with their daily concerns, yet many fail. We confidently trust Him for our eternal salvation, yet anxiety often overtakes our daily worries. This raises a crucial question: Why can we trust God for eternity but not for today?

This question shows us the depth of our faith. Jesus clearly states in Matthew 6 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow, reap, or store away in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Matthew 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

This is a powerful invitation to recognize God’s unwavering faithfulness in creation and to trust that He will equally take care of us.

Worry shows us a lack of trust in God and reflects doubt that He may not come through for us. When we allow these thoughts to come in, they lead to negative self-talk. Jesus asks in Matthew, “Can any of you, by worrying, add a single hour to your life?” The answer is no. Worrying accomplishes nothing and only takes away our joy and peace.

Matthew 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

Much of our anxiety comes from the stories we tell ourselves. Self-talk can be our greatest ally or our worst enemy. By replacing negative, fear-driven self-talk with scriptures from the Bible, we align our thoughts with His truth. This act of taking thoughts captive, as 2 Corinthians teaches us, is a discipline that renews our minds and strengthens our faith.

2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2 Timothy 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works..

Since God has already given us the greatest gift, salvation through Christ, will He not provide for our daily needs?

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

For those who are new to their faith, trusting God completely is an essential journey that is learned by reading the Bible. Fears and anxieties stem from a lack of understanding of God’s truth in the Bible.

Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.

If we can trust God with our eternal life, we should have no problem trusting Him with our daily needs.

God cares for our daily struggles. This doesn’t mean neglecting our responsibilities, providing for our families, or working. It means seeking God and doing our best to care for our own lives and loved ones.

A balanced life with  Jesus, reading and studying the Bible, working, rest, and relationships firmly demonstrates our trust in God’s provision. Living without worry does not equate to evading challenges.

By casting our cares on Him, we decisively lighten our burdens. Surrendering to God is a daily commitment from our unwavering belief that our Heavenly Father governs the universe and our lives. Embrace this truth and live confidently in His care.

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

He is a loving father. Faith is the confident assurance in God, a belief that He is faithful and able to meet every need. As children of God, we can access promises covering every aspect of life. These promises enable us to stand firm in the face of storms.

1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

We are called to triumph through faith instead of being defeated by earthly circumstances. So, the next time worry creeps into your mind, remember: if we can trust God with eternity, we can trust Him with today. Let us lay our burdens at His feet, confident that the One who holds the universe also holds our lives.

2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Proverbs 3:6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Psalms 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Psalms 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Psalms 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?

Isaiah 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.

Psalms 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Psalms 91:2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
