From Darkness to Light: Eternal Life from Jesus Christ

Hanukkah is celebrated from Thursday, December 7, through Friday, December 15, 2023, and is about the kindling of a nine-branched Menorah, known in Hebrew as the Hanukiah.

On each of the holiday’s eight nights, another candle is added to the menorah after sundown; the ninth candle called the shamash, is used to light the others.

Hanukkah in Hebrew is also called the Festival of Lights.

Hanukkah commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem during the second century B.C.

Jesus is God’s true light in this dark world to bring salvation.

But many hate the light.

John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

John 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

John 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Evil people won’t come to the light of Jesus because they love darkness unless their evil deeds are reproved to be shamed by conviction.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Christians have this light in them. We are to shine that light unto others.

We were once walking in darkness until the light shone on us.

Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.

Since we are the light of the world, we should show that love to as many people as we can so that they can see the light, too.

Matthew 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.

Matthew 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

1 John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

1 John 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
