On Wednesday, Russia emphasized that its partnership with China is not targeted at other nations but rather they could “combine potential” when confronted with a threat from the US.
When asked about potential US missile deployment in Japan, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Moscow and Beijing will respond to US “double containment” with “double counteraction.”
Zakharova emphasized that Russia and China have a non-aggressive strategic partnership. She mentioned that their relationship is defensive and not targeted at other countries. Additionally, she suggested combining their capabilities to respond to a single aggressive source.
In 2022, Presidents Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin signed a partnership agreement with “no limits,” just weeks before Putin launched a military invasion of Ukraine. In May of this year, Jinping and Putin committed to strengthening their “comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation” for a new era.
China and Russia have not announced a formal military coalition, but they have organized military activities together, including naval drills that began on Tuesday. Putin cautioned the US against efforts to outgun Russia in the Asia-Pacific region.
Putin’s ally reportedly has proposed a plan to construct reproductions of Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the White House in the Arctic just to explode them with nuclear weapons.
Russian propagandist Alexei Mikhailov’s plan aims to demonstrate power against the West in response to Britain arming Ukraine. He intends to construct plywood imitations of military targets on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, historically used by the Soviet Union for nuclear tests.
Mikhailov plans to launch a Bulava missile from a submarine in the Atlantic to destroy replica cities and broadcast the devastation online to warn the West to stop supporting Ukraine. During the transmission, Mikhailov accused Britain of plotting to participate in conflict with Russia by providing long-range precision weapons to Ukraine.
He suggested subjecting the models to over 150 kilotons of TNT equivalent to demonstrate the potential devastation from a single warhead of the Bulava missile in real cities. TV host Vladimir Solovyov doubted building the replicas, but Mikhailov argued that “thousands of migrants will construct the City Centre out of plywood.” “Buckingham Palace and Big Ben will be engulfed in blue flames, creating a horrifying spectacle.”
The Bulava missile is a crucial part of Russia’s nuclear arsenal. It is a 40-foot intercontinental long-range missile with a range of 5,160 miles and can carry six to ten nuclear warheads. Novaya Zemlya, known for Soviet nuclear tests during the Cold War, was the site of the Tsar Bomba test in 1961.
The test was the most powerful nuclear blast ever recorded, sending shockwaves across the planet and creating a mushroom cloud over 37 miles high. Mikhailov’s proposition has been widely condemned as reckless and provocative, highlighting increased tensions between Russia and the West amidst the conflict in Ukraine.
