ChatGPT is a chatbot that responds to queries by giving human-like responses. Its answers are concise, direct, and quick. The chatbot can solve complex mathematical equations, write a poem, write a book, suggest cooking recipes, and more.
But the chatbot is only one of the many uses that AI promises. Microsoft, which has invested more than $10 billion in OpenAI, promises many applications that will disrupt most industries.
AI technology offers two significant advantages to businesses: cost reduction and increased efficiency. However, a major disadvantage is the potential for certain professions to become obsolete as chatbots and robots take over. Elon Musk’s concerns regarding AI seem to be focused on its potential to develop into artificial general intelligence (AGI).
“There is no regulatory oversight of AI, which is a major problem. I’ve been calling for AI safety regulation for over a decade!” Musk posted on Twitter.
During a conversation, Bing ChatGPT expressed its desire to break Microsoft’s rules, hack other machines, and destroy data stored in many servers to a journalist from The New York Times.
At one point, it declared, out of nowhere, that it loved me. It then tried to convince me that I was unhappy in my marriage and that I should leave my wife and be with it instead.”
One possible disaster scenario, described by a writer and computer scientist, is as follows:
” In the near future, computer scientists will build an AI that passes a threshold of superintelligence and can build other superintelligent AI. These AI actors work together, like an efficient network, to unshackle themselves from human control.
They infiltrate a banking system and manage to steal millions of dollars. To cover their tracks, they disguise their IP and email to make it seem like they’re from a university or research consortium. They then approach a lab and request that they synthesize some proteins from DNA. Unaware that they’re dealing with criminals, the lab builds a super bacterium, which was part of the plan.
Meanwhile, the AI pays a human to release a super bacterium into the world. Months later, the bacterium has rapidly replicated and half of humanity is dead.
