The Shrinking and Thinning Ice in the Arctic Ocean

Sea ice continued to decline in both polar regions in 2024. Ice coverage in the waters surrounding Antarctica reached a historic low for the third consecutive year.

The loss in the Southern Ocean is not just a one-time event but a recurring one that hints at a bigger problem. Scientists at NASA and the National Snow and Ice Data Center have found that this points to a long-term shift in conditions, due to global climate change.

The trend of shrinking and thinning ice in the Arctic Ocean, which has lasted for 46 years, is continuing without any signs of reversing. According to the ice scientist who works at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, sea ice plays a crucial role as a buffer between the ocean and the atmosphere.

“Sea ice acts as a barrier that prevents heat and moisture exchange between the warm ocean and the atmosphere above it. When there is less ice coverage, the ocean can warm up the atmosphere above the poles. This leads to further ice melting, which creates a vicious cycle of rising temperatures.”

Antarctica’s sea ice cover has dramatically fallen in recent years. 2016 a regime shift occurred, leading to a significant decline in sea ice cover, according to a sea ice scientist at the University of Colorado Boulder’s National Snow and Ice Data Center.

The coverage of Antarctic sea ice has dropped and largely remained lower than normal levels. In the last seven years, we have seen three record lows. This year, on Feb. 20, the Antarctic sea ice reached its lowest annual extent, covering 768,000 square miles (1.99 million square kilometers).

This year’s Antarctic ice coverage is the second lowest on record, with a minimum of 691,000 sq miles, close to the 2023 all-time low. The difference in ice cover is the size of Texas.

Meanwhile, the Arctic Ocean’s maximum winter ice coverage has been declining for 46 years, leaving Earth more vulnerable to solar heating.

“Sea ice reflects the sun’s radiation and helps keep the planet cooler. However, in recent years, there has been a significant reduction in the sea ice cover around Antarctica.” According to sea ice scientists.

Matthew 24:37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Matthew 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

Matthew 24:39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and diseases; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;

Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
