When you have Resentment and Bitterness that is Sin

When you are offended or disappointed by others and allow the hurt to enter your heart, bitterness, and resentment will take root, and it becomes a sin.

Resentment and bitterness can cause physical, emotional, and spiritual issues and harm relationships, similar to depression and other emotional stress.

The emotion of anger is destructive and has its roots in hate, which can be likened to the act of murder.

1 John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

When you have a negative and critical attitude, holding onto bitterness and resentment is self-defeating and sinful.

Hebrews 12:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.

No one can find peace and happiness while holding onto sin. However, God can help you overcome sin if you repent and ask for forgiveness for any bitterness or resentment in your heart.

Ask God to forgive those who hurt you, as He forgives you.

Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

Find ways to show love to those who hurt you and those you’ve hurt.

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Instead of holding onto anger and resentment, ask God to help you forgive those who have wronged you and cleanse your memory.

By forgiving your offender and asking God for their forgiveness, you release God’s blessings on yourself and the other person.

Colossians 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man has a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

If someone wrongs you and doesn’t repent, leave it to God to seek revenge: “Vengeance is mine; I will repay,” says the Lord.

Proverbs 25:21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink.

Proverbs 25:22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

1 Peter 2:23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously,

Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Matthew 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Romans 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

Romans 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

Romans 12:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Romans 12:17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

Romans 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
