Russia biggest navy drills with China in over 30 years

On Wednesday, Russian military aircraft were spotted near NATO waters as Putin initiated extensive naval and air drills, including joint maneuvers with China.

US fighter jets intercepted two Russian military aircraft near Alaska. The Russian aircraft stayed in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace.

This week, Russia began its “Ocean-24” exercise. The Russian Defence Ministry stated that the operation involves 400 warships, submarines, support vessels, more than 120 planes and helicopters, and over 90,000 troops.

Officials have announced that the exercise will continue until September 16. On Monday, China confirmed that the navies of both countries would be cruising together in the Pacific. President Vladimir Putin informed military chiefs that the war games are the largest of their kind in three decades.

The Russian leader made it clear that China would be involved with warships and planes, and he emphasized that 15 countries had been invited to observe the drills. Putin stated, “We pay special attention to strengthening military cooperation with friendly states. Today, in the context of growing geopolitical tensions worldwide, this is especially important.”

The president slammed the US for its attempts to uphold global military and political supremacy at all costs. He accused the US of aiming to strategically defeat Russia in its war and disrupt the established security framework and power balance in the Asia-Pacific region.

He stated, “The United States and its allies are bolstering their military presence near Russia’s western borders, in the Arctic, and in the Asia-Pacific region under the guise of countering the supposed Russian threat and containing China. Russia must be ready for any situation.”
