The Israeli military is on high alert, expecting an attack by Hezbollah, Iran, and Tehran’s other proxies. According to one official, the waiting period could last for days. To prepare for the expected attack, the U.S. is deploying an unprecedented array of military assets to the region.
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has directed the guided-missile submarine USS Georgia to head to the Middle East and ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier group to increase its speed as it travels to the region. During this time, Austin held discussions with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who assured Israel Defense Forces recruits that they were prepared.
“We want to make it clear that anyone who tries to harm us in a way they have not tried before should expect us to respond in a way we have not tried before. The IDF has significant and strong capabilities,” Gallant warned.
The CEO and Jerusalem bureau chief stated that Israel will respond forcefully if Iran and its proxies attack. They expect a larger and coordinated attack involving Hezbollah to the north and possibly the Houthis in Yemen to the south.
“The United States has expressed a desire to de-escalate tensions in the region, but tensions are currently at an all-time high. Hamas further escalated these tensions by refusing to participate in this week’s negotiations, which some had hoped would lead to a ceasefire.”
In Israel, tensions are heightened as Tisha B’Av (the 9th of the month of Av on the Jewish calendar) approaches, beginning Monday at sundown. This day holds great significance for Jews as a solemn day of fasting and remembrance of past calamities, including the destruction of the First and Second Jewish Temples, and the sacking of Jerusalem by the Romans.
“This is a day of major Jewish calamity in history,” Trainman declared. “But at the end of times, Tisha b’Av is meant to become a day of joy. We know that this war started on Simchat Torah (the end of the Feast of Tabernacles), a major Jewish holiday and the perpetrators (Hamas) are enemies of the Jewish people.”
Tisha B’Av is primarily a fast day observed by Jews. During this day, they refrain from consuming food or water for approximately 25 hours, beginning at sunset and ending at nightfall the following day. Additionally, this day involves reading the Book of Lamentations (Megillat Eicha), in which the prophet Jeremiah mourns the destruction of Jerusalem and the subsequent exile from the Land of Israel.
He added, “Hopefully, this conflict will turn Tisha from a day of mourning into a day of joy.” IDF Chief Spokesman Daniel Hagari declared, “The IDF conducted a precision strike against the terrorists in one specific building of the compound, an area where no women and children were present according to our intelligence. A video published today shows the compound is still intact with no significant damage to the main structure.”
