Ismail Haniyeh was completely relaxed as he casually strolled through the streets of Tehran the evening before his assassination, which was suspected to have been ordered by Israel. Looking composed in a black jacket, white shirt, and no tie. Haniyeh confidently gave what would prove to be his final television interview after attending the inauguration of Iran’s new president on Wednesday.
“Resistance means that we take pride in walking the streets of civilized countries and traveling from one nation to another,” Haniyeh told the journalist. Hours later, the Hamas leader was dead, his Iranian protectors humiliated, and the Middle East left teetering on the brink of all-out war.
Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was reportedly killed in Tehran. Hamas blames Israel for the attack, stating that Haniyeh was killed in a Zionist airstrike following his participation in the inauguration of Iran’s new president.
“Hamas declares Ismail Haniyeh a martyr to the Palestinian people, Arab and Islamic nations, and all free people worldwide,” the brief statement declared.
The group quoted Haniyeh as saying that the Palestinian cause has “costs” and “we are ready for these costs: martyrdom for the sake of Palestine, and for the sake of the dignity of this nation.”
Israel stated that Fuad Shukr, the chief military commander of Hezbollah, was killed in a retaliatory attack on Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. The Israeli military conducted the air operation on Tuesday evening Eastern Time.
The attack was directed against Shukr, the person responsible for the attack on the Golan Heights area controlled by Israel. In the attack, which occurred on Saturday, 12 people lost their lives. Shukr, also known as Hajj Mohsin, held the highest position in Hezbollah’s military structure, as emphasized by the Israeli army in an official statement announcing his death.
Following Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, Shukr coordinated attacks aimed at northern Israel. This included a deadly air raid on the town of Majdal Shams, where 12 children and teens were killed, as reported by the Israeli military. He was also accused by the U.S. of orchestrating the 1983 bombing in Beirut that killed 241 American servicemen.
